A couple of weeks ago I went to the launch of a brand new charity, SolarAid. I think they’ve got a great model of tackling climate change and poverty at the same time, so I called in on their offices last week to get some more information. My interview with SolarAid director Nick Sireau is up on Celsias.
I’m also reminded of the Design for the other 90% project, inspired by Dr Paul Polak’s observation that “the majority of the world’s designers focus all their efforts on developing products and services exclusively for the richest 10% of the world’s customers. Nothing less than a revolution in design is needed to reach the other 90%.” I think SolarAid’s lanterns would qualify.
