what we learned this week

  • UK national debt is now at 47.8% of GDP, higher than it has ever been, and is expected to rise by £1.5 trillion once bank nationalisation goes through.
  • 3,000 shopping trolleys are dumped in the UK’s canals every year.
  • The credit crisis doesn’t affect us all equally. This week I was handed a flyer from the St Pancras Grand as I came through the station. Their February special is a dozen oysters and two glasses of champagne for £28, which they describe as ‘a steal!’
