- If you’ve ever complained about your local police force, consider this: The Oscar Foundation, a Kenyan human rights organisation, has reported 6,452 ‘enforced disappearances’ by police and 1,721 extrajudicial killings since 2007. In return for this information, the director and head of programmes of the Oscar Foundation were assassinated this week while investigating further police killings. The police deny any involvement. Nobody believes them.
- In other justice news, Japan has never had trial by jury, and have just begun this year. We’ve had trial by jury for almost a thousand years in England, but I guess some cultures have different ideas about authority and freedom. France and Germany don’t have trial by jury either.
