Gilding the lily – more on the cut flower industry

We’ve mentioned the flower industry a couple of times recently, with this Valentine’s day post on Naivasha, and a follow-up on Oserian.

For those seeking a little more information, look out for this book out on April 2nd. It’s called ‘Gilding the Lily: Inside the Cut Flower Industry’, by Amy Stewart (whose blog, Dirt, is here)

Amy also has an article in today’s Guardian, timed for all those buying bouquets for Mother’s Day. Naivasha gets a mention, so does Colombia and Holland, with some interesting points about ‘water footprints’: “Every single big lake in Africa is in crisis… Europe does wonderful work preserving its own water, but the way it’s doing that is to use other people’s water.”
