Climate Camp in The City

The Climate Camp has become one of the high points on the environmental activist’s calendar over the past couple of years, after big protest camps at Heathrow and the Kingsnorth Power Station.

This year they’ve excelled themselves, announcing a 24 hour camp in the Square Mile, the heart of the UK’s financial district in the City of London.

Coinciding with a G20 meeting, and April Fools’ day, April 1st will see the usual mixture of protest and street party right in the middle of the city. This camp is a aimed at the root of the environmental crisis, rather than the symptoms.

“It’s time to camp against the over-arching problem: absolute faith in unfettered markets and endless economic growth. On April 1st the G20 leaders arrive in London. At a time of climate crisis their response to the market meltdown is emergency loans to car manufacturers, increased spending to encourage consumption, and bailouts for the very people who got us into this mess – just the thing that will make the climate crisis worse.”

The protest will start at 12:30 on April 1st. All the details are on the website.
