It may not be the most engaging lecture in the world, but the simple mathematics in Albert Bartlett’s lecture explain why we should question the continuous growth of anything – GDP, energy use, population. “The greatest shortcoming of the human race,” says Bartlett, “is our inability to understand the exponential function.”
