Trouble in Paradise

I love the look of scorn that this rhino is giving the car that’s been dumped in his drinking pond. Quite right too.

The offending car is one of a series of installations in Schonbrunn Zoo in Vienna, aiming to highlight human intervention in nature. There’s an oil pumpjack in the penguin enclosure, barrels of ‘toxic waste’ in the aquarium, and a railway line has been installed through the buffalo pen.

It’s a thought-provoking juxtaposition, and I think the two artists behind ‘Trouble in Paradise’ have struck on a nice idea. The exhibition will run until October.
