What we learned this week

  • Half of all meals in the UK are eaten alone, Boris Johnson observes in this rather good article on loneliness.
  • Five beehives have been installed in the City of London, with bankers training to look after them on their lunch breaks.
  • The bank may have been facing investigations for fraud on a massive scale, but the government still commissioned Goldman Sachs to sell billions of pounds worth of gilts this month. Let’s hope the new government will show a little more responsibility.
