Just a quick shout out to Positive News, which for some reason I hadn’t come across until very recently. It’s a quarterly newspaper “dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability, peace, social justice and equality, cultural diversity, political co-operation, individual fulfilment, and community empowerment.”
The title of the paper reflects a desire to focus on solutions, which is something I aspire to myself and usually fall far short of. What you have here is not forced positivity (I confess to being a little skeptical until I read a copy), but an antidote for those convinced that environmentalism is synonymous with alarmism and doom-mongering. The solutions to big global problems are often small and local, so it’s hardly surprising that the mainstream media tends to be biased towards the bad news. Positive News attempts to redress the balance for its subscribers.
Positive News runs on a not-for-profit basis, as a community-supporter newspaper. It is available in the UK, with sister editions in the US, Spain, Hong Kong and Argentina.
