Just a thought – we should learn to appreciate real quality. It’s too easy to settle for cheap clothing or household items that need to be thrown away. If we start to value craftsmanship and quality over prive, we could end up with more expensive but better things that will last a life time, rather than constantly replacing cheap version with cheap version. The cheap items that are constantly thrown away and replaced create more rubbish when they break and are more likely to have been produced in a sweat shop. Next time you’re shopping , consider why an item is so cheap and who may be losing out by the price being so low. A bargain for us, isn’t always a bargain for the producer in a different country.
I recently came across the website buymeonce, which sources items that could theoretically last a lifetime (eg have a lifetime guarantee, or the company offers a repair service, or something like that). I read an article about it but when I visited the site it didn’t quite have enough info, I felt. I’ll be following its progress though.
Interesting. I’d definitely use a website like that if it was done well. Thanks for the mention!
