A couple of months ago I mentioned Fish Fight, a new campaign for sustainable fishing from the River Cottage guys. Led by crusading chef Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall, they’re the guys behind the Chicken Out and Landshare projects. Both of those are innovative and successful public campaigns, so I’m interested to see how this one goes. This time they’ll be taking on the nonsensical yet obstinate might of the Common Fisheries Policy, so it’s a particularly big challenge.
“The CFP is under review and due to be reformed in the coming months” says Hugh of the campaign’s timing. “The fishfight campaign aims to influence this reform. We do not seek to dictate policy, merely the consequences of policy.”
As usual the campaign is linked to a TV programme, and Hugh’s Fish Fight starts tonight at 9pm on Channel 4. You can also join the campaign at Fishfight.net.
