Congratulations to the New Economics Foundation, which is 25 this week. Nef is a ‘think and do tank’ with an ambitious aim: “to transform the economic system – to create a new economics that maximises well being and social justice within the limits of the planet.”
Nef was founded in 1986 out of ‘the other economic summit‘, the alternative G7 gathering. Since then, the organisation has championed a whole series of good ideas, including the Ethical Trading Initiative, the Robin Hood Tax, and the Jubilee 2000 campaign. The new government has adopted two long-running ideas, the Green Investment Bank and the Happiness index.
If you’re not familiar with nef, now’s a good time to check out their philosophy of ‘economics as if people and the planet mattered’.
