- Renewable energy overtook nuclear power in the US last year, and now accounts for 12% of US energy.
- 43.4 million prescriptions were written for anti-depressants in the UK last year. In a country of 62 million people, that’s a cause for concern.
- What happens if you leave a skyscraper half finished for too long? You get a vertical shanty town, as this photo essay from Venezuela demonstrates.

Your US electricity link is broken. I suspect it’s just telling us that US has more hydro generation than we have, but I could be wrong.
Thanks for that, should be fixed now. And it’s not so much about hydro, more about biofuels, which the US has embraced in a big, heavily subsidised way.
Still not woking, I’m surprised, biofuels are mostly convertable into petrol rather than electricity. Corn into Ethanol has an EROI close to 1 so the whole enterprise is almost totally pointless.
Hmm, it’s working for me. Here’s the link:
http://www.good.is/post/america-is-getting-more-power-from-renewables-than-from-nuclear/
4.53% of domestic energy is hydropower, so you’re right that that’s a big factor. Then its 3.15% biofuels and 2.57% biofuels. I was surprised at that proportion of biofuels for domestic energy, although the US is a big believer in biofuels for transport, despite the pitiful EROEI that you point out.
I’ve read the article now my brain hurts, all the article proves is if you torture the statistics long enough you can say anything you want about them.
Really, or are you a renewable energy skeptic who doth protest too much?
It’s not rocket science, it’s just an interesting fact: in the latest bulletin from the Energy Information Administration, the primary energy overview shows that the US produced more energy from renewables than nuclear, 6.944 quadrillion BTUs to 6.173. If you look back at previous years and the growth rate of renewable energy, that’s not unexpected. Neither is it anything to jump up and down about, but you’re making a much bigger deal of it than I am.
