What we learned this week

  • A neighbour gave me a wheelbarrow today, which makes it a good day to link to this history of the wheelbarrow. You may not think you have time to read such a thing, but I assure you that you do. If I add that it includes notes on wind-powered wheelbarrows and the use of wheelbarrows against cavalry, will that help?
  • If you were to pare down your possessions to just 15 things, what would they be?
  • Big news in the UK this week was the announcement of the High Speed 2 rail link. For reasons I can’t fathom, it will 12 years to build the 140 miles to Birmingham, and my little 8 month old will be 21 when the line finally reaches Manchester.  In the four years between 2007 and 2011, China built over 6,000 miles of high speed rail.
