- The Post Office is to start offering current accounts – one step closer to the ‘people’s bank’ idea that has been suggested over the years.
- I heard a scientist from Project Sunshine on the radio recently. He argued that we need to use solar power ‘in real time’, the way nature does.

- Which is the more remarkable fact – that the US are about to fit a laser cannon to one of their warships, or that they have a ship called the USS Ponce?
Wikipedia tells me USS Ponce was “named for Ponce in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, which in turn was named after the Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon, the first governor of Puerto Rico and European discoverer of Florida.” `I bet her sailors had an odd time during shore leave in the UK.
At least it’s said pon-say then, presumably. Still, USS Leon might have been better.
The town is called Ponce. Just like HMNZS Wellington is named after the City of Wellington, not the Duke, though the city was named after him.
