As someone who is interested in the Land Value Tax, I’m surprised that I haven’t come across this before, but The Taxing Question of Land is a project to raise the profile of land in the tax system. There’s a website and the video below. It’s surprisingly in depth for an online video, and it covers the way that the burden of taxation has moved historically from landowners to workers, and why that is inefficient and unfair. It’s nice to see a good range of LVT advocates, and it touches on a number of interesting questions – how a land value tax would help more people into farming, for example, or how it could help boost support for wind energy.
you may be interested to know of an event that is taking place in Oxford on the weekend of 9-12 October – House of the Commons (www.houseofthecommons.org). Lots of interesting talks including one from Simon Fairlie. Looking at the issue of housing generally, but touches on the topic above in places.
Pleased to hear it. Will look that up.
