The story of one man’s forest

Jadav Payeng started planting trees on waste ground near his home in 1979. He has now single-handedly planted a forest of 550 hectares. He hopes to protect India’s Majuli Island from erosion, create space for wildlife, and help to address climate change. It’s an inspiring story of just getting on with it, and how long and patient service can add up to something quite incredible.
