What we learned this week

  • I wrote about curious technologies yesterday, but here’s another – using liquid air as an energy storage mechanism. Just the sort of smart idea we need if renewable energy is to form an increasing percentage of our energy mix.
  • Sun journalists arrested and the Heartland Institute getting an online de-pantsing – is there some kind of liberal schadenfreude festival going on? But aside from a fleeting moment of poetic justice, nothing has been gained here, especially since the Heartland Institute is now fundraising off the back of it. All of which makes David Steven’s irreverent post the best thing I’ve read on the matter.
  • Hundreds of people are living in the storm drains under Las Vegas – this week’s Panorama doc on poverty in America is an eye opening glimpse into a side of the US we don’t see very often.
